How Tea And Other Herbal Health Drinks Can Make You Feel Better

By Nita McKinney

Herbal health drinks are big business these days.

There are many drinks that claim to have added vitamins and minerals in them or herb and planet extracts.

The reason for this explosion in the number of drinks is that people are alive to the potential health benefits of herbs such as rose-hips, and even flowers like dandelion.

Tea is one of the most popular drinks in the world. It came from the Chinese and was simply hot water with an infusion of fresh tea leaves.

That idea has evolved of hundreds of years into the herbal tea industry we see today.

Nowadays plants like chamomile and peppermint are used in place of the original tea.

The method of making the drink has not really changed over the years.

You put the fresh herbs or the teabag in a cup and pour hot water over them.

Usually you leave the herbs to infuse the water for around five minutes.

Some people have taken things a little further by using an infusion teapot.

This allows you to use loose leaves and bark, as the teapot has a filter that allows you to pour the liquid into a cup without getting any residue in the cup.

If you are using fresh herbs then as a rule use two teaspoons per cup.

If using dried herbs then use around one teaspoon per cup.

A lot of people have a problem with the lack of sweetness in the drinks and will add honey. They do not add sugar because it does not taste as nice.

Additionally, honey is a natural sugar and some people prefer to ingest natural sugars.

Herbal tonics are something that many people have started drinking.

They are fairly easy to make, though it does take a while for them to become drinkable.

They are made by placing fresh herbs, such as rosemary or nettles, in a jar and adding some red wine.

After stirring with a wooden spoon you then seal the jar for around four weeks, to let the drink assume the flavor of the herbs.

Try drinking a bit each day for maximum benefit.

If you do not want to make your own drink then be sure to pick one that has been thoroughly researched and contains quality ingredients.

Ideally, it should have no additives, coloring or flavorings, just natural ingredients.

Herbal teas have been known to help relieve a wide range of conditions.

Things like coughs and colds are said to be relieved by simmering some ginger root in water for around 10 minutes and adding lemon juice and honey.

Take out the ginger and serve.

Stomach complaints have been treated by giving the complainant some tea infused with peppermint. It's said to help relieve bloated and upset stomachs.

Something that is not often mentioned when speaking of herbal health drinks is the absence of caffeine in them.

What is so great about them is their versatility.

Coughs, colds and stomach problems can all be alleviated through drinking herbal teas.

And many people like to take them when they just want to relax.
